Scientific goals

Basic task of the device is the accumulation of data on the time history and spectrum composition of hard electromagnetic radiation emitted by the solar flare. Such data are crucial for understanding of the underlying mechanism of solar flares.

Another task is the detection and registration of cosmic gamma bursts.

Technical parameters

The device registers hard electromagnetic radiation from solar flares over a wide energy range, from X-rays to gamma-rays (10 keV - 10 meV). The spectrometer has two sensors (one points towards the Sun, the other in the opposite direction).

The device works in either "monitoring" or "flare" mode.

In the monitoring mode the device observes hard solar radiation in eight energy bands from 10 keV to 10 meV with temporal resolution of 1 sec. Detailed energy spectrums (256 channels) are measured with 32 sec. accumulation time. Intensity sensitivity threshold is about 10-7erg sm -2s-1.

In the flare mode detailed flare history is additionally recorded in the three energy bands (128 channels) with automatically adjusted accumulation time varying from 64 msec to 4 sec.
