CORONAS-I


Mission details

CORONAS-I, the first Orbital Solar Observatory of the three planned within the framework of CORONAS project, was successfully launched on March 2, 1994 from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in the North of Russia.

The head institution charged with preparation and coordination of the mission is Institute of Terrestrial Magnetism, Ionosphere and Radio Wave Propagation of the Russian Academy of Sciences. IZMIRAN is located in the city of Troitsk, about 20 km from Moscow. CORONAS-I is a cooperative effort of Russian and Ukranian scientists and technicians. Taking part in the project are also Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Germany, USA, France.
